Tales From the Organ Grinder!
This year, Islewilde celebrates Organs! From the Latin word "organum," which means "instrument" or "tool," we survey those parts of a whole that perform a specific function within our organism.
First and foremost, the organs of the body!
The heart, blood and blood vessels!
The salivary glands! The esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, intestines, rectum and anus.
The pituitary gland! The adrenals!
The skin, hair and nails!
The ever lovin' lymph nodes! The tonsils, adenoids, thymus and spleen!
The nervous system, brain, spinal cord, and nerves! Far out!
And let's not forget the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, mammary glands, testes, prostate and penis! Hooray!
The pharynx! His brother the larynx! Their cousins the trachea, bronchi, lungs and diaphragm!
The bladder for God's sake! The bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons!
We've got 'em all! Come on down!
But also the organ as a musical instrument!
The reed organ! The harmonium and accordion! The harmonica! The electronic organ! The hydraulophone! The Hammond Organ! The mighty Wurlitzer! This is gonna be great!
